It’s always something smaller. Quieter. Almost forgettable, if you’re not paying attention. A glance that lingered half a second too long. A sentence that landed slightly wrong. The exact way the air shifted between saying something and not saying it. And then it’s gone. Well, not really.
The feeling never ends
You can’t fully explain it. You can’t recreate it exactly. But you know it existed, because something in you reacted before you had time to think about it. That reaction lingers long enough to become art.
What I end up doing is expanding the moment, taking something that lasted seconds and stretching it until it can hold a full narrative. Giving it context it didn’t originally have. Letting it bleed into imagined conversations, invented backstories, and outcomes that never actually happened. Sometimes a feeling is more precise than the reality that caused it.
When a second becomes everything
It’s strange, realizing how much of a piece can come from almost nothing. And suddenly there’s something complete where there used to be… a flicker. Something that, if you tried to explain its origin, would sound insignificant. But on the page, it holds.
I don’t always remember the moment clearly. Sometimes it’s already blurred by the time I sit down to write. Details shift, faces lose definition, timelines stop making sense. But the sensation is intact. So that’s what I follow. Because writing, at least for me, isn’t about preserving events. It’s about preserving impact.
